When you mail to multiple contacts in the same household, there may be times when you want to limit a mailing to one per household. For example, it’s common to mail birthday cards to everyone in the household, but holiday cards are typically sent to the family vs. individual members.
The Primary Household Contact feature allows you to designate one member of each household to receive mailings for the group. In your address book, use the Primary Household Contact checkbox field in each contact record to make a contact primary for the household. A check in the 'Yes' box indicates the contact is a Primary Household Contact and allows you to add a Household Greeting.
Primary Household Contacts will appear on contact lists with the house icon next to their name. When importing lists, you can use 'Y' in a Household Contact field to indicate if a contact is the primary contact for the household.
When sending one per household mailings, the Household Greeting field allows you to address the mailing to a group rather than the individual Primary Household Contact (i.e. The Kauffman Family or Mr. and Mrs. Kauffman and Family). You can populate the greeting when entering contacts individually or include a Household Greeting field on lists you import. The primary household contact must be designated in order to use the Household Greeting. When shopping, in the 'Recipients & Return Address' options of purchasing/personalizing an item, select the option: Use Household Greeting and we will print the household greeting information instead of the contact's name information. If there is not data in the Household Greeting field, we will use the contact's Title, First and Last Name and Suffix fields instead.
